carrion Community Rules
Our Approach to Moderation
carrion uses a restorative rather than punitive approach to moderation. Bans and timeouts are cooling-off periods, not sentences. The goal is always repair and community health, not punishment.
When conflicts arise, we focus on de-escalation first. Most situations can be resolved through conversation, a brief timeout, or simply walking away and coming back later. Escalation up to permanent removal is a last resort, reserved for cases where someone has demonstrated they cannot or will not participate in good faith.
This isn't about being soft — it's about being intentional. Every person here is a community member first, and moderation actions are tools for restoring that community, not for retribution.
Core Principles
- Treat other users with courtesy and respect
- Accept "no" gracefully - harassment or pressuring others after a declined request is prohibited
- Respect boundaries and preferences listed in profiles
- Keep OOC (out of character) disagreements civil
Character Profiles:
- Your character profiles are treated to a high standard as they are what is publicly available and most easily looked at
- Character profiles can be temporarily hidden from view if there are egregious rule violations on them (slur use, marginalizing language, etc.)
Public Chatrooms:
- This is an adult platform — NSFW conversation is generally expected and welcome in public channels.
- Public chats are shared spaces. Conduct yourself the way you would at a restaurant or café, not your living room.
- This means basic social awareness: don't be hostile, don't pick fights, don't make the space uncomfortable for everyone else.
- "I was just being honest" or "they're being too sensitive" aren't defenses. If people are telling you something landed poorly, that's the feedback.
- Moderators judge behavior by its effect, not by whether it technically violates a specific bullet point. If you're looking for loopholes, you've already missed the point.
Channel Moderation:
Public channels fall into two categories:
- General-interest channels (music, gaming, art, general chat) are community commons. If you moderate one, you're a custodian, not a gatekeeper. You may remove users for conduct-disruption, harassment, derailing-but not for identity or character type unrelated to the channel's purpose.
- Affinity channels (#lesbians, #furries, #latex) may restrict membership when that restriction serves the channel's stated purpose. A channel for women may limit membership to women. A channel for video games may not. A channel for women in gaming may.
The test: does this restriction serve the channel's topic, or is it just moderator preference? If you want full control over who joins without justification, make the channel unlisted and advertise it. Public channels get discoverability; the tradeoff is openness.
Patterns of arbitrary exclusion-banning character types, demographics, or users for reasons unrelated to conduct or channel purpose-may result in loss of moderator status or channel reassignment.
Private Chatrooms:
- You have more latitude in private, but "private" doesn't mean "anything goes"
- If you're an asshole and someone reports you, you can still get in trouble
We're not here to kink-shame. The following content is allowed on carrion, but it requires more care than vanilla content because the blast radius of surprising someone with it is higher.
What counts as "extreme":
- Vore (soft, hard, any variety)
- Gore & death (graphic violence, snuff, torture as kink)
- Bathroom kinks (scat, watersports, emesis, filth)
- Underage scenarios (ageplay, age regression, or any scenario involving characters depicted as minors)
- Zoo / feral (sexual content involving non-anthropomorphic animals)
The rules:
- In public channels: Extreme content discussion belongs in the designated extreme channels (#extreme, #looking-extreme). Don't bring it into general channels.
- In DMs: Requires explicit consent from your partner. A kink listed on someone's profile means they're interested — it is not an invitation to open with it. Ask first.
- On profiles: You can list whatever you want. That's what profiles are for.
Content filters: If you'd rather not see profiles with specific kinks in search results, you can set up content filters in your account settings. Profiles with your blacklisted kinks will be hidden from search and matchmaker results.
The following are strictly prohibited and will result in immediate account termination and reporting to law enforcement:
CSEM (Child Sexual Exploitation Material):
- Real or photorealistic images/videos of minors in sexual contexts
- This includes AI-generated content that appears photorealistic
Bestiality Media:
- Real photographs or videos of sexual acts with animals
Snuff/Extreme Gore:
- Real images or videos depicting death, murder, or extreme bodily harm
- Actual footage or photographs of violence, torture, or fatal injuries
Other Prohibited Content:
- Revenge porn or non-consensually shared intimate images
- Content obtained through hacking or unauthorized access
- Any content that violates local, state, or federal laws
If you share AI-generated content and we cannot determine whether it depicts real minors, real bestiality, real revenge porn, real snuff, or other illegal activities, we will treat it as if it is real. This will result in an immediate ban and potential reporting to law enforcement authorities. When in doubt, don't share it.
What IS allowed:
- Text-based fictional roleplay between consenting adults (including ageplay scenarios with fictional characters)
- Drawings, artwork, anime-style content, and clearly fictional visual media
- Fantasy content that is clearly not depicting real people or events
- No slurs, hate speech, or discrimination based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, or other protected characteristics
- No promotion of extremist ideologies or violence
- This is a progressive, queer-friendly space. Reactionary politics, "just asking questions" about marginalized groups' rights, or fascist apologia is not welcome here.
A note on reclaimed language:
We understand that many people in marginalized communities reclaim slurs as part of their identity. That's valid, and we're not here to police how you talk about yourself or within your own community.
However, default public channels are shared spaces — an open-air café, not your living room. Not everyone in a marginalized group is comfortable hearing reclaimed slurs used casually, even by people who share their identity. Out of respect for those people, please keep reclaimed slur usage out of the default channels.
Extreme and affinity channels have more latitude here — the audience is self-selected and the expectations are different. In DMs and private spaces, it's between you and the people you're talking to.
- All participants in any roleplay or exchange must be consenting adults (18+)
- Don't send unsolicited sexual content or roleplays
- Establish boundaries and expectations before starting intimate roleplays
- Either party can withdraw consent at any time
Platform Guidelines
- One account per person (multiple characters are fine, but not multiple accounts)
- Don't impersonate other users or public figures
- Don't share accounts or account credentials
- Don't attempt to bypass bans or suspensions
- Don't share personal information (yours or others') without explicit consent
- Don't dox, threaten, or harass other users
- Don't attempt to coordinate off-platform harassment
- Don't spam, flood, or excessively advertise
- Don't use bots or automation without permission
- Don't engage in financial scams or solicitation
- Don't attempt to exploit or hack the platform
Reporting & Enforcement
- In chat: Use the Report Chat button in Chat Tools (lower-left corner). This captures the conversation as evidence and sends it to the moderation team.
- Claire: Claire is our in-chat moderation bot. If things are getting heated in a public channel, Claire may step in on her own. You can also DM her directly to report a problem — just describe what's going on, like "there's a fight in #general" or "someone is being creepy in #lobby."
How tattling works: Claire uses sentiment analysis to assess the situation. If she thinks it's worth looking into, she'll ask for your permission to see recent messages from that channel. Reply "yes" to confirm — your client will automatically bundle the last ~50 messages and send them to Claire for review. If you change your mind, just ignore the request (it expires after 5 minutes). Claire only sees messages you choose to share, and evidence is never stored permanently — it lives in memory for one hour, then it's gone.
Tattling also alerts any online moderators and janitors on Discord, so even if Claire's analysis isn't perfect, a human will see it and can step in. - Illegal content: Use the Report Content page for CSEM, revenge porn, or other illegal material.
- General questions: Reach out on our Discord.
Violations of these rules may result in:
- Warning: For first-time or minor infractions
- Profile Block: Hides your profile from view or access until the problem is fixed. Used for rule violations found on character profiles.
- Chat Mute: Prevents you from speaking in chat for the duration of the mute. You can still use other site features.
- Temporary Ban: Prevents you from doing anything on the site for the duration. Used for repeated or more serious violations.
- Permanent Ban: For severe violations, illegal content, or repeated infractions. Prevents all site access. Will also add discriminators to all your characters so that the names are freed up for other users.
Appeals: If you believe a moderation action was taken in error, you may appeal by contacting support. Include your username and a clear explanation of why you believe the action was incorrect.

About Moderation & Operations
Carrion is a hobby project run by a solo developer with occasional volunteer help. We'll do our best to be responsive and fair, but please be patient with us.
As a private platform, we reserve the right to exercise discretion in all moderation matters. While we follow these rules as guidelines, final decisions about user conduct and platform access rest with us. This is our house, made by us, for us, and we get to decide who stays.
